What is a B-1 Visa?
B1 Visas are for non-immigrants wanting to enter the USA for the purpose of doing business (e.g. for negotiating deals, hiring, consulting, attending conferences, taking part in training), or for an extended trip, hence the ‘Temporary Business Visitor’ classification. The B1 allows the holder to remain in the USA for six months – twice as long as the 90 days permitted for those entering under the Visa Waiver Program. It may also be possible to obtain an extension for a further six months. These visas are usually issued jointly with a ‘B2’, permitting the holder to travel within the US for pleasure.
What is a B-2 Visa?
B2 Visas are for those visiting for pleasure, to visit with friends or relatives, to participate in amateur events, or for medical treatment. B2 visas can be granted for a period of 1 to 10 years, during which time the holder may make multiple entries into the United States.
